Are You a Sinner?

Are You a Sinner?

If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us.
-1 John 1:8-10 NIV

Here are 4 symptoms that you are a sinner:

1. Fear

Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?” The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’ ” “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves. Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden. But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?” He answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.”
-Genesis 3:1-10 NIV

In these verses, you can see that Adam and Eve, the first man and woman in the bible, hid from the Lord because of fear when they had sin against Him.

Fear is a fruit of sin, and if there’s no sin, there’s no fear.

2. Living in Sins

When Adam and Eve had sin against God, God punished them for it.

To the woman he said, “I will make your pains in childbearing very severe; with painful labor you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.” To Adam he said, “Because you listened to your wife and ate fruit from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘You must not eat from it,’ “Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat food from it all the days of your life. It will produce thorns and thistles for you, and you will eat the plants of the field. By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return.”
-Genesis 3:16-19 NIV

Upto this generation, the pains of woman in childbearing are very severe and a man should work hard before he and his family could eat. This situation shows that people are living in sins.

Also, it is applied when a man commited a mortal sin and his family especially the offsprings are affected. Because of that, they are sometimes being judged or discriminated.

Another is when a person enjoys to commit sin.

3. Agony

Agony or severe pain is a fruit of sin people get from struggles or trials in life.

Why should the living complain when punished for their sins?
-Lamentations 3:39 NIV

A sinner cannot live in complete happiness for there will be punishments for his sins.
So, if struggles and trials strikes you, you are a sinner.

4. Death

And the Lord God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.”
-Genesis 2:16-17 NIV

These verses simply means that if you sinned or broke the law of God, the result will be death. And the reason that every people die is because every people had sin against God.

If these symptoms are applicable to you, therefore, you are a sinner. But, Romans 6:23 says, For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

So, admit that you are a sinner, confess your sins and come to Jesus and through him you will be saved.
